01-08 Genesis Chapter 8

Chapter 8 - The Great Flood Ends

150 Days after the Flood started, God caused a wind to pass over the earth and the waters began to subside. The underground springs and fountains ceased. The rain and downpours were restrained.

The waters recede for another 150 days.

In the 7th Month, 17th day of the month, the Ark came to rest on Mount Ararat.

In the 10th month the tops of mountains appeared. After 40 more days, Noah sent out a raven and then a dove. The dove returned because there was no where to set down. 7 Days later, Noah sent the dove again and the dove returned with an olive leaf. After an additional 7 days, Noah sent the dove out for a last time because the dove did not return.

In Noah's 601st year, the first day of the first month the waters drained and Noah removed the covering of the Ark. The ground was dry. By the 27th day of the second month, the flood waters were drained and the earth was dry.

At that time, Jehovah instructed Noah, his family and the animals to leave the Ark and gave them the command to spread over all the earth, multiply, become many and fill the earth.

Noah built an altar and sacrificed some of the clean animals to Jehovah. Jehovah observes that Man's inclination is bad from his youth up; and resolved to never again to call down evil on the ground on account of man, nor to ever again deal every living thing such a blow.

Jehovah gives the prophesy, "For all the days the Earth continues, seed sowing and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease."

Need to investigate the chronology a bit more. The flood waters continued 150 days, then receded for a 150 days. Total ~300 days?

Noah was 600y, 2M, 17 days when the flood started and 601, 2M, 27 Days when the flood "ended". Total 1 Year, 10 Days?

Questions:

Did the Earth have a shallower orbit prior to the Flood?

How did adding the mass of the flood waters (especially if the water came from ice rings around the Earth) affect the Earth's orbit?

Revisit when discussing Peleg.

I used a 30 day month for the 150 days to arrive at the change in months for Noah's age. This, however, only gives a 360 day year and would leave a discrepancy of 2 months in the timeline.

The timeframe may be explainable using Lunar Months of 28 days, with a 13th Lunar month for a 365 day year. This slightly changes the change in months in Noah's age.

It is interesting that the Bible counts the time both in days (150+150) and in years and months (Noah's age.)
